Coquihalla reopens after multi-vehicle crash

Motorists travelling southbound on the Coquihalla can still expect delays following a major crash Friday afternoon.

Traffic backed up Friday afternoon at the Box Creek chain up area on Highway 5.

Southbound lanes on the Coquihalla highway were reopened after being shut down for more than six hours Friday, following a multi-vehicle accident near the Box Canyon chain up area Friday afternoon.

There are no reports yet on injuries, but damage was substantial to a number of vehicles.

Early reports indicate that the accident was sparked by a semi trailer truck that had lost its brakes.

Although the highway is now open, DriveBC is warming motorists to still expect delays and watch for traffic control personnel.
