Coroner investigates rail fatality

Few details have been released relating to the death of a pedestrian in a train accident that occurred Friday on CP Rail tracks

Few details have been released relating to the death of a pedestrian in a train accident that occurred Friday on CP Rail tracks east of Malakwa.

CP confirm the death occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on June 19. Spokesperson Salem Woodrow said a westbound freight train “made contact with an individual near the community of Malakwa… which unfortunately resulted in a fatality.”

Sicamous RCMP and CP Police are assisting in the investigation, which is now in the hands of the B.C. Coroners Service.

No one else is reported to have been injured in the incident, and authorities are not considering the matter suspicious. The name of the deceased was not being released until police notify family.
