Council candidate: Ruth Thomas responds - What's your position on cutting costs as opposed to maintaining or increasing the municipal tax rate?

That would depend entirely on where the cost cutting is most likely to occur.

If it is in an area that is already well funded, it might be an option, if it means cutting back on essential services, it would be an obvious no.

Increasing municipal tax rates, although unpopular, is necessary as costs for everything increase.  The key is to look at creative ways to keep them at a reasonable level.
