City council has given its support to a Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Board (LCRB) application related to the return of the Demolition Derby to the Salmon Arm Fairgrounds.
At its May 13 meeting, council voted unanimously in support of a motion that it authorize use of city lands (the fairgrounds) for the LCRB special event licence for June 15 and 16.
A staff report to council explains the Hideaway Liquor Store will be responsible for liquor sales during the two-day demolition, swap meet and show n’ shine, and has submitted the corresponding permit request to the LCRB.
“The beer gardens will be in a gated location with security,” reads the report. “Capacity in the beer gardens will be 499 people. The applicant has contacted the RCMP and will have security and emergency services including ambulance services on site. The beer gardens will have its own security at the gate to check IDs and manage the area.”
Mayor Alan Harrison said it’s awesome the demolition derby is returning to the fairgrounds, “so I will certainly support the motion try to help make this a very successful event.”
