Developers, architects in running for commercial building honours

Several Shuswap buildings are finalists for the eighth annual Southern Interior Construction Association Commercial Building Awards.

Several commercial buildings in the Shuswap are finalists for the eighth annual Southern Interior Construction Association Commercial Building Awards.

The Orchard Park Terrace condo development and the SmartCentre development in Salmon Arm are all in the running for an award.

The Mara Lake Water Treatment plant in Sicamous is also a finalist.

Orchard Park Terrace, which is located on 1st Ave NE in Salmon Arm was built by Sandy Ridge Construction Ltd. and designed by Bernd Hermanski Architect Inc.

According to Sandy Ridge's website, the development features Hickory Hardwood in all units, open floor plans and insulating concrete form construction which improves the energy efficiency of heating and cooling.

The School District 83 administrative office building was constructed by Sawchuck Developments Co. Ltd.  based on a design from MQN Architecture and Interior Design.

The Smart Centre complex, which houses Winners and Walmart, among other businesses, was built by Converge Construction and designed by K. Paul Architect Inc.

The Mara Lake Water Treatment Plant was constructed by Maple Reinders Inc. and designed by Garry Tomprowski Architect Ltd.

All  buildings completed in the southern interior between July 31, 2015 and July 31, 2016 were eligible for the awards.

The awards ceremony will be held in Kelowna on Oct. 27.
