An evacuation alert active since May in Sorrento has been rescinded.
The alert, which affected 11 properties located on Caen Road, was first issued by the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) on May 3 due to heavy creek flow creating risk of slope failure. Newsome Creek was actively eroding the slope of the creek channel.
The properties named in the alert are: 2803, 2805, 2807, 2809, 2817, 2819, 2821, 2823, 2825, 2827 and 2829 Caen Road.

“The hazard associated with the undercut banks and the instability of the affected trees remains, but the gully erosion processes are much less dynamic than during the spring freshet period,” a release from the CSRD reads.
Occupants of the affected properties are being told to remain vigilant and monitor the creek and nearby gully for significant erosion or changes and report them to the CSRD. They are also asked to avoid the area five metres from the edge of the creek channel.
