A former Salmon Arm resident was one of two victims of last week's explosion at the Lakeland Mill in Prince George.

Al Little, who grew up in Salmon Arm, died April 24 while working the night shift at the mill. His mother Deanna still lives here.

Little was a 17-year employee at Lakeland, the last two years as a manager.  He was the last man out of the mill as flames enveloped the building Monday night. He died early Tuesday morning at University Hospital of Northern British Columbia.

Mill worker Glenn Roche also perished in the blast and ensuing fire, which left 22 others injured.

Little, 43, was remembered Saturday as a gentle giant, a poet, the author of a book entitled, Wolf Dreams. He was known for his love of animals, the outdoors and his garden, tending his property with his life partner Jo Burrows.

He was well respected for his dedication to his job and his reputation as a mentor to his co-workers.

A service was held in Prince George on Saturday, April 28.
