A fire caused major damage to a home in Chase Thursday night, but all the occupants of the home were not injured.

Members of the Chase Fire Department were called to the home on Brooke Drive at approximately 5 p.m. to discover thick smoke coming from the roof area.

"The fire was in the attic, and it was difficult to access properly, so we had to go into defensive mode, and just try to contain it," says Fire Chief Brian Lauzon. "Other than the roof, we were able to save the most of the structure, but there was water and smoke damage."

Lauzon says occupants of the home were inside when the fire broke out. They smelled the smoke and were able to get out. He noted there was  no smoke detector in the attic area.

The fire department was also able to ensure the fire did not spread to any other neighbouring homes.

The majority of the firefighters were off duty by midnight, although a crew was kept on site overnight to ensure no further problems.

Lauzon says the cause of the fire is currently undetermined and he will be investigating today.
