The Petro-Canada on Lakeshore drive in Salmon Arm is currently out of gasoline.

The Petro-Canada station on Lakeshore drive is the first station in Salmon Arm to run out of gasoline amidst shortages caused by the Fort McMurray wildfire and an unplanned outage at the Suncor refinery in Edmonton.

The station still has diesel fuel and its convenience store remains open.

According to a press release from Suncor, Petro-Canada's fuel supplier, their operations that were disrupted due to the wildfires resumed production on May 29. Suncor expects to be operating at normal pre-fire levels in the Fort McMurray area by the end of June.

Suncor's refinery in Edmonton experienced an unplanned outage in part of their gasoline and diesel production operation on May 27. The refinery primarily serves Western Canada.

"We are anticipating that by the end of the week that unit that produces gasoline will be back in service and then we will be looking to very quickly replenish sites," said Suncor spokesperson Sneh Seetal.

The uptown Shell station also had to shut down their pumps briefly, due to a short supply of gasoline on June 7, but a delivery on the morning of June 8 has them back up and running.

"My company hasn't told me anything about us running out any time soon," said uptown Shell owner Harj Sabharwal.

More details to come.
