Biologist Gerry Leering explains the work taking place, using a Spidex machine, to create four new hummocks along the foreshore trail. The role of the hummocks is to add biodiversity to the grassed foreshore flats by installing unique habitat systems, including a reptile habitat, sand for turtle nesting and additional vegetation. The project is a response by the city of Salmon Arm to off-set their sewer works along the foreshore.
