Salmon Arm RCMP are trying to piece together the circumstances after a man jumped from a moving vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Around the dinner hour, traffic was stopped on Highway 1 west of Salmon Arm as result of a man being injured after he exited the passenger door of a vehicle moving at between 80 or 90 km/hr.

The man, who is a resident of Alberta, has been spoken to by police but, due to his injuries, has not been able to convey information.

“The Salmon Arm RCMP does know that the vehicle involved was a blue SUV that did not stop after the passenger exited and rolled down the highway. Local police would like to speak to this driver,” says Staff Sgt. Scott West of the Salmon Arm detachment.

“After the male regained consciousness on the roadside, he did try to run away and fled up an embankment. He soon ran down the hill, tripped and hit his head on a vehicle that was parked on the side of the road,” he added.

RCMP report the man is continuing to recover at Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
