A commercial transport truck involved in a recent collision along Highway 1 in Salmon Arm was found to have had mechanical issues.
In a media release update issued Tuesday, June 27, Staff Sgt. Scott West said the westbound truck involved in a June 14 single-vehicle collision that occurred between 4th and 6th streets along the Trans-Canada Highway was inspected by Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) personnel. It was determined the vehicle had mechanical issues with the braking system “the driver wouldn’t have known about. ” As a result, said West, the company involved and the CVSE will be following up with a mechanical shop.
Police reported the truck driver had experienced braking issues during the June 14 incident. The driver of the truck avoided rear ending a number of vehicles stopped in traffic, instead hitting two light standards and four planter boxes while coming to a stop. One of the light standards hit by the truck wound up damaging two unoccupied parked vehicles.
