A horse that went missing from rural Lumby Monday is believed to have been stolen.

It's not your average furry, four-legged friend that goes missing, it's much bigger.

A horse was reported missing from Mabel Lake Road in Lumby Monday, and following an extensive search the owners have been led to believe that he may have been stolen.

"I went looking everywhere, and there aren't any tracks in the snow," said Linda Fawcett. "How does something just vanish and there's no tracks?"

The dun quarter horse, named Mr. Ed, was in the field, with the 15 other horses, Monday morning but by dinner time he was missing.

"It's really weird that he just vanished," said Fawcett. "He's never strayed the herd."

Along with no tracks, no fences were broken and none of the other horses were missing.

"If he got out, they would've got out."

Mr. Ed is in his late 30s, but looks much younger. The dun has a white stripe on his head, one back white sock and a scar on his rear end.

While Fawcett isn't sure why someone would steal the old boy, this isn't the first time her family's farm has been targeted.

"We've had a quad and shop broken into and people steal hay all the time."

Anyone who may have seen Mr. Ed or know where he is is asked to contact Linda Fawcett at 250-307-2133.

Lumby RCMP are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information to call the Lumby RCMP at 250-547-2151 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.

"It is unknown at this point how the horse disappeared off the property," said RCMP spokesperson Jocelyn Noseworthy.
