Murder suspect to remain in custody

A 24-year-old former Salmon Arm man will remain in custody until January after making a first appearance in a Kamloops courtroom

A 24-year-old former Salmon Arm man will remain in custody until  January after making a first appearance in a Kamloops courtroom Thursday, Dec. 12 on a murder charge.

Travis Aaron Johnny will return to court Jan. 23 and was ordered to be held in custody.

RCMP announced this week that Johnny was arrested and charged in the death of Archie LePretre. The Vancouver man was stabbed to death after a group of three men allegedly attacked him and his cousin in an elementary school yard in downtown Kamloops in March 2011.

The attack is thought to be gang-related. Two other men were arrested but were later released by RCMP, who said they are continuing to investigate.
