Now that Sturgis North has a new venue on Neskonlith land, city council has rescinded noise extensions for the Salmon Arm fairgrounds.

The Neskonlith site at 50th Street NW will be the venue for the main music stage for the motorcycle rally and music festival to be held July 13 to 17.

Sturgis officials had earlier received approvals from city council for noise bylaw extensions to midnight Friday and Saturday and 11 p.m. on Sunday for the fairgrounds. The bylaw normally prohibits noise after 10 p.m.

Of those council members present June 27, Mayor Marty Bootsma was alone in voting against rescinding the noise extension. He said with all the changes the event has already undergone, “Sturgis may change again and need an extension.”
