Okanagan-Shuswap weather: Snowfall warning for Paulson Summit

Environment Canada is forecasting grey days ahead

Hopefully you didn’t expect Sunday’s stellar sunshine to carry on into the week because you’re going to be very disappointed, if so. Winter’s last gasp may take place in the week ahead.

Today’s forecast courtesy of Environment Canada:

In Penticton it’s expected to be cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. The high temperature is around 3 C.

In Kelowna it’s going to be cloudy and there’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries changing to 40 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries near noon.

In Salmon Arm it’s expected to be cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. The high temperature is around 3 C.

In Vernon it will be cloudy today with a 40 per cent chance of flurries changing to 40 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries near noon. The high temperature is near 4 C.

Tonight: Depending on your location in the valley there could be up to two centimeres of snow overnight while temperatures hover around 0 C. .

Will the sun come out tomorrow?Nope. It’s going to be a rainy, snowy kind of day.

On the roads:. There is a snowfall warning in effect for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. Snowfall with total amounts of about 20 centimetres is expected.

An approaching frontal system will track across the southern interior tonight. Snow at times heavy will begin this evening and persist through Tuesday. Snowfall amounts up to 20 cm can be expected by Tuesday evening.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Fun fact:

Kelowna is home to some of B.C.’s political powerhouses and, perhaps, a political ghost story.

The old Bennett house may have more than a few skeletons in its closets, given its political history.

But its ghosts are what Andrew Bennett is most interested in.
