Shuswap Country Estate residents want the province to repair and re-pave Tappen Notch Hill Road.

Shuswap Country Estates resident Marvin Sytnyk is leading the charge to get road repairs on the Tappen Notch Hill Road.

He says a 70-signature petition was sent to Transportation Minister Todd Stone on July 15.

The petition outlined concerns about continuous re-patching, large pot holes and their potential to cause accidents.

There are a total of 56 homes in the development south of the Trans-Canada Highway off the Carlin exit.

“Carlin Road and the Tappen-Notch Hill Road have been patched and patched and re-patched,” says Sytnyk. “They’re worn out and need a completely new overlay of asphalt.”

Sytnyk says he has spoken to local Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) officials, who have told him repeatedly there is nothing in the budget for such improvements.

“I’ve been here for 10 years and, without exaggerating, I would have to say the road has been patched six times,” he says, noting after complaints, road workers usually put “dirt” in the holes but two weeks ago, actually applied proper patches.

Retired now, Sytnyk spent his career building roads across the province. He says the road is worn out.

Contacted a few hours before deadline, MOTI did not respond before the newspaper’s press deadline.
