Police beat

Reports of criminal activity from the Salmon Arm RCMP

Two different tales

Salmon Arm RCMP took a suspected impaired driver off the road last Wednesday night.

At 10 p.m. Dec.14, police noted a vehicle driving erratically on 20th Street NE in Salmon Arm. The driver of the vehicle later told the police officer that he had not been drinking alcohol.

A later breath test determined that the male was driving with more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system. A 29-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving.

Residential break-ins

In the daytime hours of Monday, Dec. 12, Salmon Arm RCMP were notified of a break-in at a residence in the 200 block of 27th Street NE. Entry was made through a basement window while the homeowner was out. Nothing appeared to have been stolen, but police are continuing their investigation.

No smokes, no tokes

A public park with a no-smoking ban wasn’t the best location for a group of young people to be lighting up — especially when police discovered what it was they were smoking.

At 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 14, police responded to a report of teens smoking marijuana in Fletcher Park. Police went to the park and located six people ranging from 14 to 21 years. A small quantity of marijuana was seized by police.

Thefts from vehicle

In the early morning hours of Thursday, Dec. 15, a thief or thieves entered a vehicle in the 5000 block of Auto Road. Stolen was a laptop computer and other items.

Police are reminding citizens that most thefts from vehicles are crimes of opportunity. Ways to deter thefts include keeping vehicles locked, using security devices and keeping valuables — even things like pocket change — out of view.
