Police bust marijuana grow operation in bunker

What's being called a sophisticated grow operation that's been active for several years is raided in Sorrento.

Police discovered what they are calling a "sophisticated grow operation" in an underground bunker in Sorrento on May 9.

According to a news release issued by Const. Patrick Evanishen, Salmon Arm RCMP executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of Taylor where they seized 448 marijuana plants in various stages of growth.

"The sophisticated grow operation appeared to have ben active for several years and was centered in an underground bunker," states Evanishen.

Police say the electrical system, which appeared to have been altered on the property, was deemed unsafe by BC Hydro so power to the property was shut off.

Two males and one female there were arrested.

"The use of a bunker and the electrical modifications greatly increased the risk to both the occupants who tended the grow but also the officers investigating," Evanishen states.

The two males, both residents of the area who are known to police, are facing charges.
