Salmon Arm RCMP continue search for driver, occupant, believed known to police

Update, Monday, July 29, 7 p.m.:

Police continue their search for two men who allegedly fled the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 1.

In a Monday evening, July 29 news release, Staff Sgt. Scott West reports that at 12:45 p.m. that afternoon, Salmon Arm RCMP responded to an overturned vehicle in Blind Bay on Highway 1, west of Hilltop Road.

West said the driver and the passenger fled on foot and were “believed to be males known to the Salmon Arm RCMP.”

A search was conducted in the area by local RCMP officers and a Police Dog Service team from Vernon.

“It was determined that the two male suspects had canvassed a number of local residents to use their phones,” said West. “After calling a number of persons, police believe that they did find someone to come and pick them up.”

West said it is believed the vehicle contained stolen property at the time it rolled over into a ditch, “and officers believe the two fled the area because one of the occupants had a warrant for his arrest from another B.C. jurisdiction and neither had a valid driver’s licence.”

Earlier in the day, police described the suspects as bald, but provided no further description.

West said officers continue to investigate.

Police are searching Blind Bay for the occupants of a vehicle that was abandoned following a collision on Highway 1.

The single-vehicle collision was reported to police at approximately 12:30 p.m on Monday, July 29. The driver and passenger are reported to have left the scene.

Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West says officers are on the lookout for two bald men, who may be attempting to hitch a ride out of the area.

Anyone with information that might assist police in locating the men is asked to contact officers at the Salmon Arm detachment at 250-832-6044.
