Thriving flower beds built into the fountain at the Ross Street Plaza were some of the decorative features Communities in Bloom judges took into account on their tour of Salmon Arm.

Salmon Arm is one of three recipients of Communities in Bloom B.C.’s highest honours, the five bloom award.

On Saturday Oct. 1, representatives from around the province celebrated their hometown’s achievements at the Communities in Bloom Awards event held in Hope, B.C.

The other five-bloom communities were the District of Sooke and Cache Cree.

“For experienced Communities in Bloom communities, reaching the four and five bloom level is an accomplishment that recognizes all their hard work. Some five bloom communities will be invited to next year’s national competition,” states a Communities in Bloom press release.

Communities in Bloom judges assess communities based on tidiness, environmental action, community involvement, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape, turf and groundcovers and floral displays

Salmon Arm and the other five-bloom communities received five bloom street banners to display.

Salmon Arm was also awarded a five-bloom award in 2015.
