Two men believed to be connected to thefts at dragon boat festival are arrested following a brief foot chase

Stopped thieves

After a short pursuit, two men were arrested in connection with the theft of items from the Dragon Boat Festival at Marine Park.

On June 23, at approximately 2:26 a.m., Salmon Arm RCMP received a call from a citizen who had observed a suspicious vehicle near the Salmon Arm harbourfront.

Police immediately attended and located the vehicle, an older blue Ford truck, on Marine Park Drive.

When the police officer tried to stop the truck, two males exited the truck and ran.

One adult man and one teen were arrested after a short foot pursuit and the truck was found to contain a large quantity of stolen property from the Dragon Boat Festival site.

The men are residents of Blind Bay and both face charges of possession of property obtained by crime. Much of the property has been returned to its owners but some still remain in police possession. Police are requesting that the property owners contact Salmon Arm Detachment to arrange the return of their property.

 

 

Cocaine seized, teens arrested

On June 25, at approximately 2:40 a.m. Salmon Arm RCMP were conducting foot patrols in the area of the Salmon Arm harbourfront and wharf when the officers observed two suspicious vehicles arrive at the wharf. Upon checking the vehicles the officers noted the odour of drugs from the occupants. A police check was conducted resulting in the location of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The drugs, including 16.7 grams of cocaine, were seized by police. One male suspect fled on foot but was located and arrested shortly after.

 

A 19-year-old male and 17-year-old female, both residents of Kelowna were arrested and face drug trafficking charges.
