SAS seeks donations of graduation attire

Salmon Arm Secondary is looking for help to allow lower-income students to graduate in style.

Salmon Arm Secondary is looking for help to allow lower-income students to graduate in style.

The school is currently accepting donations of lightly used grad gowns. Amy Witt, a counsellor at Salmon Arm Secondary, said that although they hadn’t received any in the past, they would also take donations of lightly used suits, so long as they were relatively current in style.

Salmon Arm Secondary’s graduation ceremony is on June 24, so donations will be welcome until the beginning of June. Witt said that alongside the donated dresses, one low-income student is chosen to be the SAS Cinderella.

The Cinderella is provided with professional hair and make- up appointments for the grad ceremony and one other date, such as when grad photos are taken.

The Cinderella Project is funded by two anonymous “fairy godmothers” in the community, Witt said.

According to Witt, this year’s Cinderella has already been chosen and has booked her hair and makeup appointments to coincide with SAS’s First Nations grad as well as the graduation ceremony. Witt said this year’s Cinderella is very happy she was chosen.

“We are so very grateful to this community that has been so supportive of our students,” Witt said.
