School district awaits word on whether schools will open

Both sides meeting in teachers strike but no change as of Friday afternoon.

An update Friday from School District #83 says it's not known yet if there will be a deal in the teachers strike in time for school to open on Sept. 2.

“At this point the two sides are meeting and if something does change we will notify parents as best we can through email, our website, Facebook page and local media,” stated North Okanagan-Shuswap School District #83 Superintendent Glenn Borthistle.

The district will update its website and Facebook page on Sunday and Monday by 6 p.m., even if it is just to say nothing has changed.

Borthistle asks that everyone check the websites before assuming school will be open on Tuesday.

“If an agreement is reached, our goal is that school will be open Tuesday morning. We recognize that a provincial agreement may include a schedule to delay the first day, so please check our website for any specific details," he says. "We just don’t want anyone to get an unpleasant surprise after all the uncertainty families have already been through.”
