Second Harvest needs help

Don’t forget about Second Harvest.

That’s the message from manager Diana Mangold, who says the charity service is still struggling to meet the needs of the people using the service. The organization is worried that recent comments from the Salvation Army Food Bank that their stocks are sufficient will mean that people would also stop donating to them.

“For us, donations are low and we serve double the people we used to see.”

Second Harvest is open two days a week. They accept food donations on Wednesdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays. People in need of assistance can visit Second Harvest from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday.

They are located in the lower level of the Salmar Classic Theatre.

The charity group also has a new way people can offer long-term help. Through the Salmon Arm Savings and Credit Union, residents who want to donate can set up a minimum donation of $5 per month to be automatically withdrawn from their Credit Union accounts.
