A semi truck blaock the Trans-Canada Highway eight kilometres west of Sorrento after its load shifted and it tipped on its side.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed in both directions for nearly five hours Wednesday after a truck hauling lumber flipped on its side and blocked both lanes.

At about 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, a westbound tractor-trailer unit hauling lumber flipped over on the Trans-Canada Highway near Little River Road, approximately 15 km east of Chase.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital in Salmon Arm for treatment.

Witnesses following the truck stated that as the truck exited a left-hand curve in the road, the load of lumber began to shift and the rig flipped over, blocking the highway.

The Trans-Canada Highway was re-opened at about 11:30 p.m.

Crews will be working today to clean up a small amount of diesel fuel that leaked from the truck.
