Shuswap students go back to regular school schedule

With the government's passing of Bill 22 regarding the teachers job action, recess break will be re-instated.

Shuswap students will be getting recess back when they return to class after spring break.

Effective Monday, March 26, a 15-minute recess break, which had been cancelled by School District #83 due to the lack of teacher supervision resulting from job action, will be re-instated into the school day.

This means parents are being asked to pick up students 15 minutes later than the previous time under the job action. School buses will also be picking up and dropping off students 15 minutes later than before the spring break.

The change is effective for elementary and middle school students. The high school student schedule, which does not have recess break built in, remains the same.

The change is following the government's implementation of Bill 22, which negates the teachers' job action in the wake of their contract dispute.

The move to re-instate recess marks a return to the usual school day schedule, which hasn't been in place for this entire school year, as job action began when students returned to school in September.
