The suspected crab thief has been apprehended, VicPD told the restaurant's owner Larry Ng

Larry Ng, the owner of the Ocean Garden restaurant in Victoria's Chinatown, woke up to a call from VicPD Wednesday morning, with news that a man had attempted to steal the establishment's live crabs.

According to Ng, VicPD told him that the suspect had shattered Ocean Garden's glass front door, entered the premises and plucked live crabs out of a tank in an attempt to free the clawed creatures. The suspect didn't steal any equipment or money.

He said he was also told by VicPD that two bystanders witnessed the event, one of whom stopped the man from stealing the crabs – the suspect then fled, and police have since apprehended him.

Ocean Garden has ordered a new glass door, but, until it arrives, Ng plans to temporarily board the restaurant's entrance at night.

In an Instagram post, Ocean Garden wrote, “Although the insurance deductible and inconvenience is going to be more than a headache, we are blessed that we are still set to open without any losses to business.”
