The Salmon Arm Snow Blazers Club is in need of volunteers and a new Snowcat.

The club operates out of Fly Hills, where they groom the runs in the winter months, and look after the cabin, which is accessible by car.

Currently, the trails are groomed once a week with their tractor, but director Sandy Milne said it hasn’t been enough.

The club will be asking the City of Salmon Arm for funding for the snow caterpillar, which will cost $60,000.

With the funds they are hoping to groom more runs, not only the Chalet Loop and Wallensteen, said president Brent Jetty.

They also placed third for Riders Choice Awards with their groomed runs.

The club has had success with preventing vandalism, said Milne, with an increased community watch and asking for help from volunteers.

“We’re always grateful, it’s nice to have backup,” said Jetty.

Trail and chalet day use is $15 and a membership is $80.

Memberships can be purchased through the Snow Blazers website or at Shuswap Extreme.

The club will be holding their annual Midnight Poker Run in mid-January.

Those who are interested can attend their monthly meetings, which are held the last Thursday of each month, at 7 p.m. at the Salmon Arm curling rink. For more information, visit the club’s Facebook page as they are also looking for volunteers.
