Town hall meeting to tackle crime

The Village of Chase and the local RCMP are hosting a town hall meeting tonight, Friday, April 22, to address recent criminal activity

The Village of Chase and the local RCMP are hosting a town hall meeting tonight, Friday, April 22, to address recent criminal activity.

Various individual property owners and residents have been experiencing theft from vehicles, sheds and outer areas of their homes, states a village news release.

“Some of the crimes have been ‘crimes of opportunity’, that is, unlocked vehicles, storage sheds and the like have been targeted,” says the relase. Items such as garden equipment and even loose change have been reported stolen. Other thefts have been more serious, and have included break-in type activity.

“The meeting being held is intended to help the community members understand why these crimes are occurring, and what we can do as individual residents and neighbours to make our community more difficult for thieves to obtain money and items they can sell for money.”

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Chase Community Hall.
