UPDATE: Fire by Adams Lake in the Shuswap grows, another fire discovered

Update: 2:23 p.m., July 6, 2023

BC Wildfire Service reports the Spapilum Creek fire is now 10 hectares in size, and continues to burn out of control.

Another wildfire was discovered in the North-Okanagan Shuswap, this one by Sugar Lake, east of Mabel Lake Provincial Park. The Sprockton Creek fire is classified as out of control and its cause has not yet been determined. It is estimated at three hectares.

BC Wildfire Service personnel are responding to a blaze at Adams Lake.

The two-hectare Spapilum Creek fire, located on the west side of the lake, north of Agate Bay, was discovered around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, with lightning the suspected cause.

As of Thursday morning, July 6, the fire was classified as out-of-control.

BC Wildfire Service responded to the fire Wednesday with seven personnel along with air tanker and helicopter support, and was responding with another crew of seven on Thursday.
