Underpass returns to table

Transportation Canada isn’t the only one with concerns relating to the Marine Park Drive railway crossing.

Transportation Canada isn’t the only one with concerns relating to the Marine Park Drive railway crossing.

City staff will be meeting with government agency to discuss traffic safety concerns raised in a letter to the city from Transport Canada railway safety inspector Dennis Maskell. Speaking to the letter at the May 28 regular council meeting, Coun. Marg Kentell raised a couple concerns of her own. She noted how the dip in the track at the crossing has gotten to a point where a vehicle can “just about get hung up there.”

It was explained to Kentel that the crossing would be CP Rail’s responsibility. She maintained that something should be said so the issue can be addressed.

“It is really deep and I think it should be looked at by them… Maybe it’s us that should be complaining and not the other way around,” said Kentel.

The councillor later suggested it might be an opportune time start talking about an underpass.

“Because you know, they can meet with us, but how far can you stack traffic?” asked Kentel. “It only goes back so far. It’s going to be interesting what they’ve got to say and I think it’s time we start to make a plan for the underpass so that will be alleviated.”
