Highway 97 reopened around 8:30 p.m. after being closed in both directions for nearly four hours yesterday due to a collision.

According to Drive BC, traffic was congested in the area until about 1 a.m. this morning.

RCMP said the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. and caused a power line to come down between between Commonwealth Road and Beaver Lake Road.

To help with congestion, RCMP asked southbound traffic to bypass the accident by taking Glenmore Road and for northbound traffic to bypass the accident by taking John Hindle Drive.

Despite the powerlines being down, Fortis BC confirmed electricity was not affected.
