Police continue to hunt for the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision in downtown Vernon Friday, Aug. 10.
Shortly before 4 p.m., a man in an electric mobility scooter was struck by a vehicle in front of the Mission Boutique. The man had been in the crosswalk at 34th and 28th Avenue when he was hit by a southbound vehicle.
“After hitting the man, the vehicle reversed, went around the injured man and continued on 34th Street,” said Vernon North Okangan RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski.
“The vehicle was last seen turning westbound onto 27th Avenue.”
Witnesses describe the vehicle as a four-door, black, Lexus sedan that will have obvious front-end damage.
The victim, a 71-year old man, was transported to hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

This is the second time a person in a mobility scooter has been hit by a vehicle in the same area in the last two weeks. On Aug. 1 a person driving a mobility scooter survived being hit by a semi truck at the intersection of 25th Avenue and 34th Street, half a block away from Friday’s incident.
