Cal Erikson has gone missing from the Hillcrest area. A search is being conducted on Friday

Members of the Salmon Arm RCMP and Shuswap Search and Rescue are looking for a missing senior Friday, March 25.

Shuswap Search and Rescue, along with the RCMP, are asking the public to be on the look out for Calvin Erikson, who went missing in the Hillcrest area. He was last seen at 3:30 p.m., yesterday, Thursday, March 24.

He is 76 years old, 6' 3", 215 lbs. He has grey hair and is possibly wearing glasses.

Salmon Arm RCMP report Erikson was last seen wearing a light grey, checked, button up shirt, jeans and black Rockport walking shoes.  Due to a back injury, he has limited mobility and walks with a shuffling gait.

Erikson has medical issues that require daily medication and he is currently without access to this.

An RCMP helicopter was also called in and flew repeated passes over the Hillcrest area during the afternoon. The helicopter pilot used infrared technology in its search attempts. A police tracking dog and handler have also been a part of the search.

The ground search is focusing on the areas around 10th Street SE to 17th Street SE, with Search and Rescue volunteers looking in wooded areas, as well as going door-to-door for information. The Search and Rescue command bus is set up in a residential area at 10th Street SE and 15th Ave. SE.

Anyone who might have information they think could be useful to police should contact the Salmon Arm detachment at 250-832-6044.

If anyone makes contact with Erikson, they should stay with him and contact police immediately.

The search will continue tonight.
