More vendors are popping up in Enderby this summer.
On Tuesday, council approved three applications for mobile vendors.
“They see the amount of people who show up in the community during the summer,” said Mayor Greg McCune of draws like tubing on the Shuswap River.
Returning this year is the Side Wox food trailer, but instead of the Maude Street parking lot, it will be on Railway Avenue.
Opposition to this application came from Coun. Raquel Knust.
“I had lots of complaints last year,” said Knust of noise.
“He’s done a lot to remedy the situation and I want him to succeed.”
And back after a long absence is the Tube Taxi, which will provide transportation to people floating on the river.
“It will free up a lot of parking spaces in the community,” said McCune.
“He will have a schedule so people can plan their trip.”
The Tube Taxi will operate from the Belvidere Park area.
The final council approval was for Nikki Schalin, who will sell corn at the corner of King Avenue and George Street from Aug. 4 to Sept. 4.
Recently, the Enderby and District Services Commissionagreed to a hot dog concession at Tuey Park this summer.
McCune isn’t concerned that the temporary vendors unfairly compete with established businesses in Enderby.
“They’re filling the niche of having something open late in town to get something to eat at,” he said.
“It’s another piece in the puzzle to provide the services people want.”
All of the vendors will pay fees to the city for operating in the community.
