In loving memory ~
Sad to announce the passing of Aira Maria Keski-Salmi on July 20th, at Mt. Ida Mews care facility, with her daughter Anne and Anne's boyfriend Jan present at her bedside.
Aira was born in 1933 to parents Eeva and Tuomas Jäätteenmäki, in the small farming village of Lapua, Finland. While in Finland, she enjoyed nature, reading and various hobbies and entered into a school for weaving arts and participated in vocal competitions. In her teens she met her husband Erkki Olavi Keski-Salmi, eventually had a son Reino, immigrated to Canada and later a daughter named Anne. She was active in the early days of the Larch Hills Ski Club, enjoyed her garden, baking and days spent at the family cabin.
It has been a long journey for Aira, surviving the death of her son and later her husband, and facing her own health challenges. Her family and friends are sad to see her go, but we know she will no longer have to live with a life of pain, so we are happy for her freedom. She will be greatly missed.
A private graveside service was held August 2nd, with Pastor Bill Pantzer officiating.
Many thanks to Dave Wallenstein at Bowers Funeral Service, mom's many care attendants, Shopper's Pharmacy staff, her incredibly kind neighbours and many others who have helped along the way and Aira's long-standing doctor, Dr. Laura Hepburn.
