Alfred Barnett Reid passed away suddenly, after suffering from recent strokes, in Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, BC in the early hours of Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the age of 74 years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Monday , May 11 at 1:00 p.m. with Jack Bowers officiating. Tributes will be shared by family and friends. Interment in the family plot in Mt. Ida Cemetery and a reception in the Mountainside Room at Bowers will follow the service, allowing the family and friends to continue sharing memories.

Born in Melville, Saskatchewan on April 15, 1935, Alf moved to Salmon Arm in 1948. He was employed with CP Rail from 1953 to 1970, working at the original CPR Station in downtown Salmon Arm. In 1970, he began work with the fuse plant at Tappen, retiring in 1996. He is well remembered and respected for his gardening, artistic wood work, which included a full woodworking shop in his basement and his kindness with helping his family and friends, close and afar. Following the passing of his wife, Alf was blessed to have the continued support of his German Shepherd dog, Jake.  A dog his late wife had rescued from the SPCA.

Predeceased by his wife, Anna Maria (Ann, nee de Dood) on November 8, 2002, sister, Ivy Bauer, and his companion Jake.  Alf leaves his loving family, Karen (Larry) Wilson of Abbotsford, Elsie Reid of Vernon and Sandy (Evette) Reid of Nanton, Alberta; eight grandchildren, Jason Wilson, Jenn Olson, Janelle Wilson, Crystle Reid, Alyssa Reid, Tianna Reid, Becky Synch and Kimberley Reid; and four great grandchildren, Riley Olson, Kaleb Olson, Hailie Wilson and Reid Wilson.

Memorial donations in memory of Alf may be sent to the SPCA, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
