It is with great sadness that the family of Allan James Kernaghan announce his passing on August 20, 2008. Allan was born and took his schooling in Salmon Arm. He was employed for 23 years by the Department of Highways, from 1965 until his retirement in 1988. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed camping, golf and curling as well. Allan spent many hours in his garden growing vegetables he could share with everyone. Allan loved to share, and to help where he could, and many friends helped him as well. He will be greatly missed.

Allan is survived by his daughters: Colleen (Elvin), Shannon (Scott) and Tracy; grandchildren: Jessica, Jordan, Mark, Jaymes, Riley, Vachelle and Anthony; great grandchildren: Amber and Hannah; as well as brother Ralph (Marilyn), and sister Irma; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. Allan was predeceased by his loving wife Joyce on May 19, 1988, as well as brothers Bruce and Earl and his sisters-in-law Velma and Bess.

A Celebration of Life was held for Allan on Monday, August 25, 2008 at McPhersons Funeral Chapel in Cranbrook at 1:00 p.m. Reception followed at Allan’s house. Many thanks to Dr. “Andy” Scheibenstock and all the girls in dialysis for all their work, caring and concern. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Allan can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 19 - 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, BC, V1C 2L9 or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, #300, 5165 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1T6.
