February 25, 1937 - November 4, 2020
It is with deep sadness that the family of Andrew Derek "Mitch" Mitchell announce his passing after a 1 1/2 year battle with advanced prostate cancer. He died on November 4th at home surrounded by the family that loved him dearly.
Mitch was born in Salmon Arm on February 25th, 1937, but grew up in Kamloops, BC.
He moved back to Salmon Arm at age 18, where he met the love of his life, Deret (Stewart). They married on November 25, 1961 and had two daughters-Lori (Laurent) and Tracie (Ryan). He had two grandsons Brady and Davis Roy, who he was very proud of.
Mitch and Deret owned and ran the Shell Bulk Plant across the tracks for 19 years. Not ready for retirement, he worked at Salmon Arm Ready Mix part time for 5 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 26 years at Hall 3, some of it as Captain.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, telling jokes and being with his family.
He is survived by his brother, Russ (Westbank), sisters-in-law, Glee Tailefer of Victoria and Stormie Stewart of Calgary, several cousins and nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Andrew and Minnie and sister Sharon.
Everyone who met Mitch was impressed with his up-beat attitude. He would help anyone in need and was very generous.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Sawatzky-Martens, the Oncology Nurses at SLGH, everyone at Palliative Care and Remedy's Rx.
A Celebration of life to follow in the late Spring.
