August 5, 1927 - January 18, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our amazing Mom, Anna Lund, on January 18, 2021.
Mom was born near Vilnius, Lithuania to John and Ursula Kavalinas and emigrated with her family to Canada in September, 1929, settling for a short time in the small town of Sturdee before moving to Beavermouth, a town on the CPR line 43 km west of Golden.
In 1939 the family moved to Canoe and settled on acreage which is now the golf course. Over the years they transformed the land into a very productive farm.
In the early 1940s Mom met and became close friends with Birgit Macpherson (nee Johnson). They had a wonderful friendship which lasted for the rest of Mom's life - more than 83 years!
During this time, Mom met Stanley Lund, the eldest grandson of Canoe's first pioneer family. After he returned from serving in Europe during WWII, their friendship grew and they married on November 18, 1947 and were together for 51 years until Dad's passing in August, 1998. During their time together they had 3 daughters- Lorraine, Barbara and Patricia.
Mom had a love for gardening and was very generous sharing many of her vegetables and flowers with friends and family. As well, she thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Fall Fair and was very successful with her entries.
For years Mom was a member of the Canoe United Church Ladies Aid. This group of ladies spent many happy hours donating their time fundraising for the church. Both Mom and Dad were also long time members of the Canoe Community Association donating countless hours of service over the years.
In the mid 1990s Mom and Dad sold their home in Canoe and moved to Linden Court in Salmon Arm. Here Mom made many friends and enjoyed wonderful outings with them. One of her favourite outings was going to the Pie Company. Most recently Mom loved going for lunch at Jane's Place where everyone was so very nice to her.
Mom is survived by her three daughters - Lorraine Vigue (Laurence), Barbara Gray (Simon), Pat Butler (Ron Essex), by her grandchildren - Brad (Alex), Anna (Pat), Leanne (Scott), Kevin (Rebekah), Nadine, Chris (Erika), Nicole and by her 9 great grandchildren - Evie, Parker, Loren-Gray, Una, Skye, Kallan, Emmett, Daichi and Asuka.
Mom is also survived by brothers Vic Kavolinas, Stanley Kavalinas, sister Betty Unterschultz, by sisters-in-law Joyce Kavalinas, Jean Lund (Cranbrook) and Jean Lund (New Zealand) and by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, her grandson, Mark and many other family members.
We would like to thank everyone who cared for Mom with such love in her final days including Dr. Pleissis, Dr. Enns and their colleagues as well as the paramedics, nurses and support staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
A Memorial Tea will be held for Anna at the Mountainside Room at Bowers Funeral Home on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.
Anna was a pioneer of the Shuswap, having arrived in Canoe in 1939. She is well remembered and respected for her loving and caring manner and dedication to all her family and friends.
Donations in Mom's memory can be made to the local charity of your choice.
Sincerely,
Lorraine, Barb and Patsy
