April 2, 2022
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Arlene Laverne Melanson on April 2, 2022 at the age of 85 years. Arlene passed peacefully in her sleep in her own longtime residence.
She is survived by second husband; Gideon Ben-Magor, son and daughter-in-law; Kevin and Misaki Melanson, daughter Kelly Melanson; grandchildren; Trevor and Chantelle Hasell, one brother, Merle Waller; and several nieces and nephews.
Arlene was born in Canwood, Saskatchewan, and relocated to the Salmon Arm area with her first husband, Tom, in the early 1960's. First to Canoe, then to a farm in Gleneden, and lastly to a farm in Silver Creek.
Arlene had a passion for horses; particularly Arabian horses, and raised 4 of them on the Gleneden farm. She and Tom raised Horned Hereford cattle as well for many years. She also worked as a dental assistant and later a forestry worker for the Skimeecan nursery in Tappen.
Once retired, Arlene loved going on long hikes up the mountains, reading, going to movies, going to local dances with her girlfriends, hockey tournaments with her grandchildren. Arlene was also an incredible baker and delighted her family with her homemade pies, fudge, and assorted goods for years.
She will be greatly missed by those who loved her, but we find peace in knowing she is in God's hands now. She will never be forgotten
