Arthur Edward Barz passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, B.C. on the evening of Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the age of 95 years.

A Celebration of life reception for close family and friends was held in the Mountainside room at Bowers Funeral Home on Monday morning, February 21st, at 11 a.m. with Jack Bowers the celebrant.

Interment followed on the hillside of Mt. Ida Cemetery, overlooking the family farm in the valley.

Born in Germany on December 12, 1915, Art trapped in the Yukon from 1936 to 1941, he then moved to Salmon Arm. A young girl, Joan Bland, was milking for the Tennant farm, location of the Fall Fair grounds; they met and married in 1943. Together they operated a poultry farm in the valley, turning over the operation to their son, Gordon, in 1976. They have resided in a home next to the farm since, enjoying many vacation trips, including travels to the south for some 25 winters.

He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Teresa and Liza Spanier in 1968, son Gordon in 1980, daughter Shirley Jamieson in 2005, grandson, David Hackett in 2006; sisters, Helen Kohler and Ella Winterhalder.

Art is survived by his wife of 67 plus years, Joan; daughter, Eileen (Hank) Hackett of Deka Lake; 7 grandchildren, Sheena, Stuart, Trevor, Jason, Michael, Cory and Tom; 3 great grandchildren, Trey, Avery and Brooke; 4 brothers, Ernie of Salmon Arm, Harry of Victoria, Paul of Chilliwack and Billy of Kelowna.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Charity of one’s choice in memory of Art Barz.
