June 1, 1933 - November 7, 2018
Art was the oldest of six children born to Louise and George Rabie. They lived on a 160 acre farm at Balmoral, B.C. Art attended Balmoral's one room school until grade eight, then continued briefly in Salmon Arm. As a young man, he worked for the CPR, then in the logging industry as a tree faller, truck driver and mill worker at Adams Lake Lumber. At the age of 29, he married Anne Mackenzie and together they had three children. Unfortunately, their children were passengers in a horrific car accident near Williams Lake. Donna was killed outright; Susie had to be given full care at home until she passed at age 25; and their son, Bill, broke both of his legs. This accident had a huge impact on the family, but life went on. Art still enjoyed working in the bush, picking mushrooms, cones, boxwood, and wild berries which he sold in Vancouver. He also, at one point, had his own greenhouse business and proved that he had a "green thumb" just like his parents. Art always had a large circle of friends and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling, listening to music and dancing. After his wife died, he was happy to find a new partner.

Art and Gladys Bingham had many happy years together before they both began to have health challenges. Art went into care and passed away four years later at Hillside Village with Gladys, his son Bill, and friends by his side. Art was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Anne, his two daughters, Susie and Donna; his brother, John, and sister Anna Rabie. Left to mourn his passing are his loving companion, Gladys; his son, Bill, (Jennifer); sisters Clara Anderson and Kay Mellish (Earl); and brother, Allan.

Family members would like to thank the staff at Arbor Lodge, Pioneer Lodge, and Hillside Village for their excellent care.

Friends are invited to Art's memorial tea to be held on Saturday, November 17th at 2 pm, in the lower level of the Crossroads F.M.Church on Shuswap St. (Parking on the lower level).
