February 3, 1937 - November 19, 2019
Ann Clifford passed away peacefully on November 19, 2019 at the Guildford
Seniors Village with her daughter at her side.
Ann was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, UK, to Horace and Doris Hasnip. She
left home at age 16 to train as a nurse and midwife in Nottingham.
On emigrating to Canada in 1963, she practiced as a nurse in Kingston, ON, before moving to Vancouver, BC. She continued working until her marriage to Hugh Hepburn in 1966 and the start of her family. Following moves to Smithers, BC, and Calgary, AB, she settled in Terrace, BC. Her marriage to Hepburn ended in 1977, and Ann returned to work as a nurse at the Skeenaview Home for the Aged until the facility closed in the mid-1980s, at which point she retired. In 1983, she married Roy Clifford. She raised her family and enjoyed the company of a close circle of friends. After Roy's retirement in 1997, the couple relocated to Salmon Arm, BC. Ann and Roy traveled extensively in their motorhome, on cruises, and with arranged tours. In 2013, Roy passed away. Ann remained in Salmon Arm until 2018 when she moved to Surrey, BC, to be closer to her family.
Ann was an enthusiastic gardener whose Terrace home had a large vegetable patch, a green house, and an abundance of flowers. She was a knitter and a home baker, famous among her children for her butter tarts.
She became an ardent Vancouver Canucks fan. She insisted on shoveling the driveway in winter. She fought clinical depression at times in her life. She was happy with Roy, enjoying doing crossword puzzles with him and dancing at the Legion. She raised two children who are grateful for what a good mother she was.
Ann is survived by her children, Marie Hepburn and Peter Hepburn (Conrad), her stepson Don (Ruby), her brother Michael and sister June and their families, and her grandchildren, Adam and Trevor, and their families.
The family thanks the staff at Guildford Seniors Village and Landers' Lodge in Salmon Arm for the care they gave Ann in her later years. The family held a private visitation on Friday, November 22, 2019.
