Betty Matthews passed away peacefully in Bastion Place, Salmon Arm, BC on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the age of 94 years.

A private family service will be held in the Blind Bay Cemetery, where she will be interred with her late husband and son.

Born in Port Arthur, County. of Thunder Bay, Ontario on January 23, 1922. Betty moved as a young girl to Vancouver where she grew up. She moved into the same neighbourhood as Charles (Chuck) Matthews. Chuck told Betty at the age of 12, that he was going to marry her when he graduated from Medical School and asked her if she would wait for him until then. She did. They were married in 1947. Betty was a great support to her husband with his long career in the Medical Practice with Family Medicine. They lived in Vancouver until 1974 when Chuck semi-retired and they moved to Blind Bay to their home on Shuswap Lake starting a new chapter in their lives. They spent their leisure time sailing, fishing on the local lakes, exploring, and spending quality time with their family. She was a very loving and dedicated grandmother to her 6 grandsons, always saying how lucky she was to have them live close by.

Four years ago, Betty moved into Piccadilly Terrace in Salmon Arm where she lived independently. Her recent health issues took her to Bastion Place.

Betty loved everyone unconditionally. She touched everyone who knew her as well as anyone who met her. No matter what, everyone commented on what a sweet lady she was.

Betty was predeceased by her youngest son, Glenn in 1976 and her husband, Doctor Charles Matthews in 1997. In spite of her great loss, she carried on always showing strength, encouragement and love for her family circle which we are all proud to be part of. She leaves her loving and dedicated family, daughter, Carol (Jim) Myrhaug, son, Ian (Dorothy) Matthews all of Blind Bay; six grandsons, Justin, Tyler, Kyle (Jaime-Lynn), Jeff, Jeremy, Clinton (Krista).

The family extend appreciation and thanks to Doctor Marc Laurens and the nursing staff on the second floor at Bastion Place.
