March 18, 1950 - August 12, 2021
Christine died peacefully at home on the evening of August 12, 2021. She was born in Inverness, Scotland on March 18, 1950 to John and Connie Chisholm and arrived in Vancouver with her sisters Rhoda and Anne in 1958.
She is so sadly missed by her loving husband of fifty two years, Pat; their three lovely daughters, Sheila, Amy and Lizzy, charming sons in law, Farley, Ewan and David and seven delightful grandchildren; Annika, Ben, Claire, Pete, Ian, Ella and Kira.
Always there, she loved her family dearly.
Employed by Okanagan Regional Library for thirty years, Christine started off on the Bookmobile and then became the friendly and helpful face behind the reference desk at the Salmon Arm Library. Her knowledge of books never ceased to amaze and her love of reading was contagious.
Christine had a love of the outdoors, particularly enjoying a hike in the fresh mountain air, as well as canoe camping trips and cross country skiing with friends and family. In the summer of 1997 she cycled with Pat, tandem style across Canada - a memorable adventure.
Christine had a huge heart, caring first and foremost for the well being of others. She especially loved her volunteer days at the Churches' Thrift Store. She also helped out at numerous sporting events, including the Bike for Life ride, the Larch Hills Reino Keski Salmi Loppet and the Pirate Loppet for kids.
In recent years her biggest passion has been in the sponsorship of families from war torn Syria. The Al Berro family especially, has become her second family.
In lieu of flowers, if you would care to support a cause dear to Christine's heart, please consider a donation in Christine's name to the Refugee Fund through First United Church, Salmon Arm. Go to firstcommunity.ca and follow the donate link.
The family would like to express its gratitude especially to Dr. Angela Plessis and the Palliative care team for their exceptional and compassionate care, and to Jenny Carter and the First United family for its love and support.
A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, September 4 at 2 pm at First United Church, Salmon Arm (as permitted by Public Health Covid Protocols). The service was also live streamed on the First United YouTube channel.
