Dorothy Bernice Byers passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, in the early hours of Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the age of 71 years.

A Celebration of life service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon, November 6th at 1 p.m. with Jack Bowers the funeral celebrant. The eulogy will be shared by Cindy Byers.  A reception will follow in the Mountainside room at Bowers, giving the family and friends an opportunity to continue sharing memories.

Cremation with interment to follow later in the grave of her granddaughter, Angela, in Mt. Ida Cemetery, Salmon Arm.

Born in Fort St. John, BC on May 8, 1939, Dorothy has been a resident of Salmon Arm since 1948. She is well remembered for her dedication with the boys “as a sports mom”, and her incredible floral gardens which included years of volunteer work with the Salmon Arm Fall Fair.

Predeceased by her granddaughter, Angela; her parents, Niels and Hazel Hansen; sister, Beverley Daniels, brothers, Eric and Alan Hansen.

Dorothy leaves her loving family, husband, Don; three sons, Allen, Ken, Tom (Cindy), two granddaughters, Sarah and Samantha; sisters, Hazel Wolfe of Dawson Creek, Betty (Lawrence) Lund of Smithers, Margaret Griffin of the coast, brother, Carl (Wyona) Hansen of Salmon Arm; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as family in Denmark.

Memorial donations may be sent to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, 4480 Oak Street, B321, Vancouver, BC V6H 3V4 or to the charity of one’s choice.
