June 5, 1936 - April 28, 2020
June Reed of High River, Alberta passed away peacefully at the Foothills Country Hospice on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the age of 83 years. June was born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia and was raised in the Salmon Valley on her family's farm, along with her twin-sister Joan and brothers Gary, Dan and Phil.
After high school, June worked as a nurse at the Tranquille Sanatorium for tuberculosis in Kamloops, British Columbia. In 1956, June was married to Edwin "Joe" John Stoner and together they had three daughters, Marianne, Laura and Joanne.
Together, June and Joe bought a small farm in Little Fort, British Columbia, where their daughters attended school. June and Joe later moved their family to Barriere, British Columbia, where Joe took a job at the local saw mill. Always the progressive, June was also employed at the saw mill and was one of only two women who worked there at the time.
In the years that followed, June was employed as a cook and baker at different restaurants and retired from the Ginger Tea House in Okotoks, Alberta as its pastry chef. June had a talent and passion for baking and decorating cakes and cookies. June also had an adventurous spirit as a traveler, visiting Atlantic Canada, Europe, and parts of Africa.
June spent her later years living in High River, Alberta. She was an active member of the community, participating in the United Church Choir and Windmill Theater. She had many hobbies including knitting, baking, scrabble and crib. She was loved by her friends for her quick wit, her willingness to speak her mind, and her warm friendship.
June will be sadly missed by her loving daughters Marianne, Laura and Joanne; her brothers Gary and Dan; her grandchildren, Melissa, Keri, Ashleigh, Sarah, Brandon and Alexa; and great-granddaughter Aubrey.
June is predeceased by her parents, Ernie and Florence Reed, her twin sister Joan Duncan, her youngest brother Phillip Reed, and grandson Daniel Lee.
