Douglas Edward Piggott passed away peacefully at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm on Sunday, October 26, 2008 with his family by his side.

Doug was born on a farm in Bardal, Manitoba, the younger brother of Howard.

When Douglas was two years old, his mother Lily passed away and later his father James married Ivy Ostlere. Together they had a son, James.

In 1942, Doug joined the army and served overseas until 1945. Upon returning to Canada, Doug took up farming. In 1946, Doug married the love of his life, Dorothy Wooldridge and they had 5 daughters. In 1964 they moved to Salmon Arm and bought the original Shuswap Lodge and ran it until

1980.

Doug had a tremendous lust for life. He loved playing the guitar which was self taught by listening to the Carter family on the radio. He never lost his love for learning. He enjoyed ping pong, antiquing, metal detecting and puzzle solving.

Doug was predeceased by his second oldest daughter, Clio in 1986. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; two brothers, Howard and James; daughters, Gale (Rob) LeDuc, Charm (Ron) Pitura, June (Walter) Piggott, Darla (Doug) MacKay; grandchildren, Reneigh, Sada, Hallie, Kara, Kyla, Jennifer, Tommi, Cole, Delaney and Kendal; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
